I used to be a big Keith Moon fan when I first started out playing. Back then i never listened to much else than classic rock. I went around saying that keith moon was my hero and that he is probably the best rock drummmer to ever live...

then one day my moms musician friend kinda gave me scoldings for saying such a thing and talked about simon philips. I waslike whatever at the time....

then i got into other things.... weckl.... vinnie.... gadd! and then after a while i came upon this video clip somehow.... I hope i dont offend anyone by saying this but i personally dont like keith moon any more.... infact i kinda hate him!

Can some one explain to me why hes rated so well? Im not being sarcastic.... i just want other ppls perspectives and opinions....

I think he's a genius in the way he plays against and with Daltrey and Pete. He's a lot better than people give him credit for, a ton of energy, creativity and balls. Quadrophenia is pure drumming composition beauty.

That said, this solo is pathetic. But then I'm sure a Virgil solo wouldn't have anyone screaming in that audience.

You know, if Vinnie played with even a tiny bit of "Keith Moon" on that Megadeth album, he would have sounded much better.

Sometimes a lot is missed in hyper-perfection.

Personally I love Moons playing and he was one of a kind. Truly a unique style and such character! Musicaly, he played with so much passion and energy and his phrasing and understanding of the songs and melodies was just perfect. There have been many imitators, but there was only one Keith Moon. A legend.

I saw this show. I thought it one of
his lesser moments, actually.

However, I also thought Quadrophenia
was a real achievement for him, along
with Who's Next.

Some drummers play better with comp-
liments. I think that Keith was one of
those drummers.

He was Keith and a one and only.

I mean Goin' Mobile, come on...every fill he plays on that song contributes to that song, propels it forward, builds drama and fits musically.

It's a totally different way of playing than anyone really, Vinnie, Dave Virg...Gadd had a little bit of the anticipation and spice of Moon.

There weren't many drummers who had his fire and energy, when he was young at least...none came close.

Well, I'm going to change my words. He wasn't the worst drummer of all time, he was just, IMO, nothing special apart from one thing..loads of energy.
